FAIRBANKS - State fire officials told Gov. Sean Parnell wildfires are a serious problem this summer.
About 500 fires have burned 2.5 million acres throughout Alaska, and fires could continue through August if hot dry conditions persist.
At a briefing Wednesday in Fairbanks, Parnell was concerned whether the state had sufficient resources to protect life and property. Officials said resources are strained, but they're getting what they need.
Parnell flew to Eagle earlier Wednesday to survey the efforts to rebuild from spring floods.
