To all you people who smoke cigarettes at kids' soccer games: First, you're breaking the law. The fields for the most part are on school grounds and it is illegal to have drugs on school grounds. Second, you set a bad example for your own kids by breaking the law and of course by smoking. Quit blowing smoke all over my family, please.
Someone needs to stop wasting our time worrying about the road. Let's build a ferry and get on with it.
All I wanted to do was buy a ticket on the ferry to Haines. I stood in line for 45 minutes to try to do so, with two people working the counter, not seeming to know even how to ticket anyone. It's no wonder people want to build a road out of here.
I wanted to sit down and write a letter to thank Don Etheridge for his simple yes or no vote on the road out of Juneau. It's obvious the marine highway system no longer caters to the residents of Southeast Alaska as a highway system. It caters more for tourists than Southeast Alaska residents. Thanks Don.
Eagles were never endangered by having nesting trees cut down. Eagles have the ability to move to a new site. Complete houses in Anchorage are being lifted off their foundations, moved to a new site, and set on foundations to facilitate road construction. The same is true for highways all over Alaska.
I'm tired of Frankie Pillifant's arrogance. She said on the radio today that residents of Juneau shouldn't vote on the road issue because they don't have enough information. The reason there isn't enough information is because Frankie and her pals convinced the governor to not finish the EIS.
I have been a short-term resident of Juneau for part of my life. We need to get rid of the cruise ships, throw more garbage around town, melt that glacier, shoot the bears, eagles and gulls so the helicopters and floatplanes will leave. Further improvements include damming Lynn Canal and installing a bike path to Skagway with a Haines cutoff. If we create the world's largest pink flamingo sanctuary, we will then only attract bird-watching cyclists that will not add to today's noise or pollution levels.
I manned the tables at one of the grocery stores this past weekend to collect donations and to hand out window stickers for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and I want to thank the people who have a genuine interest. The program is not necessarily to stop people from drinking, it's to stop people from drinking and driving. It's a community problem, and thanks to our community for supporting this new chapter.
Deflated balloons, plastic dinosaurs, charcoal fuel, parachute men, glass bottles, yogurt containers and one full bag of trash. All of these items were left on Lena Beach on Saturday, Aug. 5. I don't know who the Juneau 2nd Ward Primary is, but I am happy not to be a member. They aren't even smart enough to remove the incriminating signs for their ``I Love Juneau'' beach party. Perhaps their signs should have read ``I Love to Trash Juneau.''
I have a business and Coastal Helicopters is one of my repeat customers. Let's not limit a business from making a living, especially when it is only seasonal business.
