Safe camping focus of presentation

Forest Service naturalists Dan McGuigan and Rebecca Van Kerkvoorde will present a program on ``Calculated Camping'' at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 19. The presentation covers how to have a safe and successful camping trip.

Children ages 7-12 are invited to attend; kids under 7 are welcome with adult supervision. Call 789-6640 for more information.

Foster care training offered by DFYS

``Foster Care Training and Orientation'' will take place from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the DFYS Conference Room, first floor, Vintage Business Park, 3025 Clinton Blvd. Call 465-1659 for more information.

Library winners

Katie Hamby and Jake Olivit were the Aug. 1 winners in the Juneau Public Library's weekly prize drawing. Hamby won a gift certificate from Rainy Day Books and a hat from Foggy Mountain Shop. Olivit won a gift certificate from Rainy Day Books and a water bottle from Mountain Gears.

Throughout the summer, kids who borrow items from the library can register for the drawing by placing their name in the fishbowl at checkout. Two prizes are given each week - one for kids up to 12 and a prize for teens 13 to 19.

Bulb sale underway

The Juneau-Gastineau Rotary Club's Spring Bulb Sale is underway. Choose a bulb package at Gastineau/bulbs and e-mail the form to Include name, phone number, the address to which you want the bulbs delivered, the list of bulbs you want and the total due. Checks should be made out to the Juneau-Gastineau Rotary and mailed to: J-G Rotary Club, Box 22235, Juneau, AK 99802-2235.

Proceeds from the sale will support, among others: The Glory Hole, Senior Home Project, Family Day at the Lake and International Youth Exchange. Call 586-3540 with any questions.
