Can someone explain to me why Coastal Helicopters did not verify the pilot's hours? What if this pilot had crashed on the freeway or something and killed a bunch of residents?
Regarding the road issue out of Juneau, Juneau has more than enough information to base an informed decision for a vote on the road. They've been discussing it for 30 years. It's time to move on and get with it.
Someone needs to stop wasting our time thinking about fast ferries. We need to build the road to Skagway now. Without delay.
I find it curious that the antiroad environmentalists have suddenly become concerned about money. When some other project impacts some oyster, money is no object, especially when they can talk the state into dedicating money to one of their pet projects. But now they're using the cost of the road as an argument against it and using the environmental nonissues as a fallback argument.
The good old boys on the assembly have done it again. They scream bloody murder when the voters get something on the ballot, then bend over backward to do the same for their friend. Please don't run, Dennis. You've done enough.

In regards to the story in Tuesday's paper on Fords Terror and the kayaker: Fords Terror, to the informed boater or kayaker, is a great place to visit. However, the story has to do with people getting separated. It's got nothing to do with Fords Terror itself. Why clutter up a reasonably good story with irrelevant material?
