Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Edward Bomberger II, son of Diana E. Leatherberry of Juneau and Edward F. Bomberger of Ashland, Ore., recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
During the eight-week training program, Bomberger completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of classroom academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.
Virginia A. Bierman has enlisted in the United States Army.
Sgt. First Class Marcellus D. Jeter of the U.S. Army recruiting station in Juneau said Bierman enlisted as a chemical operations specialist and enrolled in the Concurrent Admissions Program.
She is a 2000 graduate of the Adult Learning Center in Juneau and is the daughter of Michael D. Vanfleet of Juneau and Anita G. Holbrook of Mount Airy, N.C. Bierman and her husband Jessey L. Bierman are from Juneau.
Elijah G. Geil has enlisted in the United States Army.
Sgt. First Class Jerry J. Carpenter of the U.S. Army recruiting station in Juneau said Geil has enlisted as a cannon crewmember and enrolled in the Concurrent Admissions Program.
He is a 2001 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School and is the son of Penny D. Geil of Mapleton, Ore., and Mark R. Geil of Douglas.
