Former Juneau resident Virginia R. Kinsey, 54, died July 25, 2005, at Mount Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka.
She was born to Paul "Eli" and Daisy Phillips on March 7, 1951, in Haines. She attended Haines and Juneau schools and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School.
She married Myron Michael Kinsey on July 20, 1989, in Haines. They moved in 2000 to Sitka.
She was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making jelly, picking berries, fishing and helping elders. Her friends and family say she was "a wonderful wife and mother. She was talented, loving, caring and devoted."
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Myron Michael Kinsey of Sitka; her son, Jarrell Paul Arnold of Juneau; her daughters, Kristine Vernell Johnson and Carol Ann Arnold of Sitka; her six brothers, Paul, Fred, Milton, Eli, Howard and Johnny; her four sisters, Flora, Pauline, Vivian and Nancy; her stepdaughters, Joanne Gassner and Darlene Ciske of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Eli Phillips, Howard Phillips, Johnny Phillips, Sam Payenna, Warren Taylor and Phil Burdick. Honorary pallbearers were Della Brouilette, Christopher Johnson, Rose Phillips, Joanne Gassner, Delan Coydtrick, Darlene Ciske, Melinda Phillips and Heather Powell.
Services were 2 p.m. July 27, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Sitka. The Rev. Randy Russom officiated with Salvation Army Lt. Rick DeGroot and Lt. Denise DeGroot. A reception followed at the church. Burial was July 28, 2005, at Sitka National Cemetery.
