Vehicle crashes into Valley gas station

JUNEAU - A vehicle crashed into the side of a gas station in Juneau's Mendenhall Valley Saturday evening, going through a wall with the car eventually catching fire.
A 1999 Chevrolet van driven by a 54-year-old Juneau man crashed into the Tesoro gas station located on Mendenhall Mall Road around 5:45 p.m, causing heavy structural damage to the building, according to police. The man's identity was not immediately released.
The Juneau Police Department and Capital City Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. The van was totalled and damage to the store was estimated to be $75,000. The store's owner said the store will likely be closed for a few days while repairs are made.
