N.Y. professionals teach dance, voice

JUNEAU - Two young New York City theater professionals will teach a creative dance and voice workshop in Juneau during the next two weeks.

``We're going to be dealing with structured improvisation and technique,'' said Tanya Crosby. Crosby and her partner, Pascale Wettstein, will teach.

The workshop includes six three-hour classes. The first hour will focus on physical training and dance technique. The second hour will focus on voice, and move on to improvisation with the group using folk chorus structures, structured improvisation and spontaneous theatrical events.

The group is open to adults and young adults with varied performance experience. The class begins Aug. 15 and meets 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for two weeks, for a total of about 18 hours. It costs $125. The class will meet at the Juneau Dance Unlimited studio at the Scottish Rite Temple.

Crosby grew up in Juneau and studied theater in New York City. Last year she founded The Broadway Studio Theatre. She has produced, performed and collaborated on musical, dance and theater productions in New York.

Wettstein was born in Switzerland and trained in modern dance and classical ballet. She works in New York City as a visual artist and dancer.
