Juneau resident Elizabeth S. Murphy died Aug. 7, 2008, at Bartlett Regional Hospital. She was 79.
Born June 24, 1929, at Excursion Inlet, she came from Chookeneidi Bear from the Cedar House. Her Tlingit name was Won-da-ton. She attended Sheldon Jackson School in Sitka and was a cook for Hoonah schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Johnnie and Lilly Houston Johnnie.
She is survived by her husband, Miles Murphy Jr.; daughters, Janice Bennett, Charlene Osborne-Austin, Renae McLean, Twila Murphy and Kathleen Parks; sons, Christopher Sumdum, Rick Shane Sumdum, Miles Murphy III and Myron Murphy; sister, Jessie Johnnie; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Tlingit and Haida Building. Burial services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Wilson, Ray Wilson, Donny Wilson, Norma Wilson, Lillian Hillman, Tina Martin, Paul Roudolph, Jake White, Kenny Grant and Herman Davis. Pallbearers will be Walter Jewell Jr., Persy Douglas, Quin McLean, Royal Hill, Raino Hill, John Marvin, Charles Bennett and George Bennett.
