JUNEAU - Hunters will have a last chance before duck season opens to attend a Basic Hunter Education Course, to be offered 6-9 p.m. Aug. 22 and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility, 5670 Montana Creek Road.
The course includes instruction on firearms safety and handling, wildlife conservation and management, game laws and regulations and hunter ethics and responsibility. A hunter education course is a requirement for anyone hunting on the Mendenhall Wetlands, starting this year. Successful graduates will be awarded a lifetime hunter education certification recognized throughout North America.
Cost for independent study materials is $10. To register for the course, students are required to purchase a packet of study materials at the JHEF or the Douglas office of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Room 201. The study workbook must be completed prior to the start of the course and all materials brought to the class.
