Anchorage completes section of $12 million downtown trail

ANCHORAGE - Anchorage officials recently opened the new 2.6-mile Ship Creek Trail, connecting downtown to the Mountain View neighborhood.

Officials said it's the newest addition to the city's 250-mile trail system. The trail is an addition to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

The $12 million dollar trail was funded through Department of Parks and Recreation bonds and the Federal Highways Administration, through the state transportation department. City officials said the Alaska Railroad Corporation also contributed $1.5 million for the separated trail crossing over the mainline track.
