JUNEAU - Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School will have a new, interim principal when classes begin this fall.

Molly Yerkes moves up to the title of interim principal, after serving the previous five years as assistant principal at DHMS, the Juneau School District announced recently.

"Molly's experience as assistant principal, her relationships with the staff and families of DHMS, and her commitment to the success of each student makes her a great choice for this position," Juneau School District Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich said in a news release. "I am confident that the year ahead will be a positive and productive one for the entire Dzantik'i Heeni community."

Prior to her term as assistant principal, Yerkes taught for eight years at Floyd Dryden Middle School, Juneau-Douglas High School, and at the University of Alaska Southeast.

She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in teaching from UAS and also earned a master's in educational leadership at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

"I am very excited to be continuing to work with students and staff at DHMS in this new role," Yerkes said in the release. "We have a high caliber of new teachers joining our talented staff this year. I am eager to welcome those new faces along with my returning colleagues as we continue our work toward building a world-class school with the highest quality instruction."

The district expects to announce a replacement for Yerkes' former position within two weeks.
