JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON - Hundreds of family members and friends were at a ceremony to see off 76 Alaska Army National Guardsmen being deployed to Iraq.

KTUU television says the 12-month deployment is the state's first major Army National Guard deployment this year. Gov. Sean Parnell was among those at Sunday's ceremony at the National Guard Armory, thanking the soldiers for their service.

The soldiers fly UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and will make air assaults and move soldiers and equipment in Iraq.
