Group to pick up litter along Thane Road Saturday

Children of All Nations will be picking up litter Saturday along Thane Road. Litter Free Inc. is requesting drivers be alert for the group.

Litter Free will present Children of All Nations with funds for their organization in return for the cleanup under the ALPAR Juneau Youth Litter Patrol program. Groups interested in performing cleanups can call Kathleen Gamble at 463-9330 for more information.

Bible camp conferences for pastors, families offered

Echo Ranch Bible Camp is hosting two conferences during the fourth week of August to conclude the normal summer camp season.

From Aug. 22-24, the Pastors Conference will take place. The conference is an opportunity for evangelical pastors to gather in a retreat setting, enjoy the camp's facilities and study together in a seminar setting. Pastor Dave Norris from Garden Mennonite Church in Hesston, Kansas, will speak. Call 789-3777 for details.

Family Camp takes place from Aug. 25-27. It is open to the general public on a space available basis for up to 100 people. For a reservation, call the camp office at 789-3777 and ask for a registration form; cost is $20 per day for adults with reduced costs for teens and younger children.

Big Brothers Big Sisters salmon bake Aug. 26

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Juneau will hold their annual Salmon Bake Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 26, at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake.

An after dinner auction will follow, with a Gustavus weekend getaway and a bracelet designed by Gene Chilton of Totemic Treasures among the items being auctioned off. Food is being provided by local bakers, with entertainment by Children of All Nations. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Call 586-3350 for tickets.

AWARE offers domestic violence training course

AWARE is offering a training seminar on domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse. The 17-hour session is free and open to the public. AWARE's training will begin Friday evening, Aug. 18, and continue Saturday and Sunday. To register please call Rene Pisel-Walker at 586-6623.

The training is for those wanting more information about how domestic violence affects families. Other topics include substance abuse and domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, cultural awareness and healing, and legal issues.

The weekend training will be followed by a 22-hour training session for those interested in working or volunteering in crisis intervention and healing.

Housing sought for tribal gathering in September

Housing is being sought for the Gathering of Tribes scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4 at Juneau-Douglas High School. There will be between 150-200 drummers and dancers, mostly adults, that need housing.
