DENALI NATIONAL PARK - Open fires are now allowed in the back country of Denali National Park and Preserve.
Park officials said rain and cooler weather in recent days have moderated the danger from wildfires.
Open fires won't be allowed in the wilderness portion of the park's back country, which includes most of the original Mount McKinley National Park. But open fires are OK in the additions made to the park in 1980 and in the preserve.
Open fires also are allowed in fire grates installed in the Riley Creek, Savage River, and Teklanika River campgrounds.
