The Juneau School District is reminding parents that all students must register for school.

The first day of school for first through 12th grade students is Wednesday, Aug. 28. Kindergartners begin school Tuesday, Sept. 3.

To register for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old by or on Aug. 15. Kindergarten registration will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the school the child will attend.

Kindergarten parents must bring with them children's birth certificates and immunization records.

All returning elementary and middle school students are registered already.

New elementary and middle school students may register at the school they will attend from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday. The school district requires them to bring birth certificates and immunization records.

Parents who want to register their children for the RALLY before- and after-school program for students ages 5 to 12 may do so between today and Thursday at Auke Bay Elementary, Glacier Valley Elementary, Gastineau Elementary, and the RALLY office in the basement of Harborview Elementary. Parents also may register for RALLY at all elementary schools from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday. Parents who register this week will not be charged the RALLY registration fee.

All Juneau-Douglas High School students must complete the seven-step registration process to receive a locker, student ID and class schedule. Class schedules will not be mailed.

Registration for returning students and entering freshmen will be held in the Marie Drake Building next Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 19 to 21, from 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. on days designated by students' last names.

Registration times are:

Students with last names beginning with O-Z may register on Monday, Aug. 19. Students with last names beginning with H-N may register on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Students with last names beginning with A-G may register on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

High school students who are new to the district may register from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. Students who missed their assigned day earlier may register from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23.
