KODIAK - The mother of a Kodiak infant who had stopped breathing crashed her car as she rushed the child to a hospital.

The baby girl was taken from the wreckage Sunday and rushed to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Names of the family members were not released.

The 6-month old child had stopped breathing and had lost consciousness.

Alaska State Troopers said the 21-year-old mother drove at a high rate of speed on Rezanof Drive West but lost control of her 2008 Ford Focus. The car crashed and rolled.

The woman's 28-year-old boyfriend and their 19-month-old son were in the car. The toddler was in a child safety seat and was not injured. Troopers say the adults suffered minor injuries.
