The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council received word Monday that it has been awarded a Rasmuson Foundation Effective Organization Grant. The award will assist the organization as it expands its activities to include management and operation of the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.
The Effective Organizations grant program is intended to assist organizations that are undergoing significant transitions: The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council took on the retired National Guard Armory in September of 2007 and moved from its small offices in Franklin Street to open the Juneau Arts & Culture Center for business in October of that year. This step significantly expanded the activities of the Council as it works toward turning the facility, locally known as the "JACC" into a thriving, active community center.
The grant will help the Council develop business systems capable of handling the new and more complex tasks of running the facility, provide staff with training, and bring stability to this new venture.
