JUNEAU - The Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies shelter recently conducted an informational meeting on its new prevention program, Girls on the Run of Juneau (GOTR), which seeks to prepare girls, in third to eighth grades, for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
This empowerment program offers an interactive 24-lesson curriculum starting in September at two school locations. It will teach girls about self-esteem and healthy self image while they train for a 5K race.
Team Tiara is the charity "leg" of GOTR and uses the power of running to make a difference in the lives of our girls. Athletes pursue individual goals to raise money for this local program.
To adopt a runner and help offer scholarships to girl participants, contact Ati Nasiah at 586-6623 or email@example.com.
