City closes park trail after bear attacks

ANCHORAGE - Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich ordered a trail closed Tuesday after recent bear attacks.

Begich closed Rover's Run Trail in Far North Bicentennial Park until it is again safe for public use.

The Department of Fish and Game is trying to find and kill a female grizzly believed to be the primary aggressor in several attacks or scares this summer, the latest of which happened last Friday night.

They have not yet found the bear.

The city urged recreational users in others parts of the park to travel in groups of three or more, make noise and carry bear spray.
