Find a groove with instructor Antonio Diaz as he goes through the steps of Afro-Cuban dance. Offered through Juneau Dance Unlimited, the classes begin Aug. 8 and run every Saturday from 5-6:30 p.m. until Aug. 29.
Classes will focus on three Afro-Cuban dances: Yambu, Guaguanco, and Columbia, with influences of Rumba-Flemenco from Spain and other Afro-Cuban ceremonial dances. The class is designed to work on body isolation, while learning to dance to the Afro-Cuban rhythm of the "clave," and having fun with the music. This is a non-partner dance and focuses on helping students with their rhythm in Latin dance style while having a great workout.
Instruction will be held at the JDU dance studio, 8420 Airport Blvd, Ste 202. Cost is $10 per class and drop-ins are welcome. Pre-registration is not required. Students age 14 through adult, all levels of ability, are invited to participate.
