Two boys soccer teams from Juneau made it the finals of the Alaska State Soccer Cup in Palmer Sunday, but came up short of winning state titles.
The Juneau Orcas Under-13 team fell to the Alaska Goldstrikers 6-0. Two apparent goals by the Orcas were called back on offsides calls. The Goldstrikers got off 18 shots on goal.
The Goldstrikers U-16 team downed the Juneau Rainmakers 3-1 in the only other final with a local squad.
The Juneau Quicksilver U-14 girls and the Juneau Hawks U-12 boys were eliminated in semifinal games Sunday.
In other boys finals, the Goldstrikers U-12 team downed the Chugiak Soccer Club Mustangs 4-0; the Goldstrikers U-15 squad defeated CISC Elite 86 6-1 and AYSC Thunderbirds defeated the Chugiak Soccer Club Revolution 5-1 for the U-14 championship.
In girls finals, Alaska United trumped the Goldstrikers 2-0 in the U-16 title; the Goldstrikers won the U-12 title with a 3-0 victory over Anchorage Youth Soccer Club Arsenals and Mat-Valley Polaris won the U-14 title 5-3 over the Cook Inlet Soccer Club Firebirds.
Alaska United won the U-13 girls title in a 6-1 defeat of the Arctic Knights of Fairbanks, and the Alaska United won the U-15 championship 4-2 over the Eclipse 86 of Fairbanks.
Two Juneau players, Rob Lossett and Zuriel Ebron played key roles in Alaska Uniteds (U-17 boys) 3-0 championship victory over the Matanuska Valley Mudcats. Lossett scored two goals and Ebron played goalkeeper.
The Alaska State Soccer Cup attracted 1,200 players and 75 teams from Anchorage, Fairbanks, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Juneau.
