The annual "We the People: Standing Our Ground" march and rally has been scheduled for Aug. 22. The theme of the march this year is "Alaska Tribes: the Next 10,000 Years."
The march will begin at 11 a.m. at the Mount Roberts Tram, with a rally following at 12:30 p.m. at the Capitol. A reception will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall.
Featured speakers include Leonard John (opening prayer), Master of Ceremonies Richard Jackson, and speakers David Katzeek, Frank White, Eric Morrison, George Walters and Randy Wanamaker. Walter Johns will give the closing prayer.
The march is sponsored by the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Naative Sisterhood Camps 2, 3 and 70, the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camps, the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, the Douglas Island Indian Association and Klukwan Inc.
