Welcome! to the 2005-2006 School Year

Posted: Sunday, August 14, 2005

A new school year brings anticipation and excitement for students, families and educators. This is an opportunity for parents and students to set goals and target achievement levels for the school year. We want to work with you to help you realize your goals and make this a great year for Juneau School District students.

The State Legislature and Borough Assembly both increased the funds for Juneau schools and prevented the loss of programs and services we were worried about last fall. The pupil teacher ratio for this coming school year has improved at all of our schools.

In Juneau we are all partners in providing each student with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be a contributing citizen in a changing world. -

Juneau School District Mission

The best predictor of students' achievement is the level of involvement of their parents in their education. Think now about setting up a homework space in your home, establishing a study schedule with your children, and getting involved in your children's schools. We welcome parent involvement in the classrooms, activities and decision-making forums. Parents and community members are invited to serve on the District's strategic plan committees. This year's strategic plan will be focused on drop out prevention, Alaska Native student success, positive school climate, staff development and partnerships. Please contact me if you'd like to serve on any of these committees.

The first day of school for students is August 24. We are excited as we work with our skilled teachers, support staff, and administrators to prepare for a productive year for Juneau's students. Thank you for all you do to support the students in your family.
