DanceFest 2008 tickets on sale
Get your dancing shoes ready.
Tickets and weekend passes are now on sale for the third annual Juneau DanceFest, to take place August 29 to September 1 at Centennial Hall.
There will be a wide variety of dance classes offered during the day, followed by live music in the evenings. The headliner band, playing the Saturday, Aug. 30 night concert, is Maraca, a Grammy-winning, ten-piece salsa band based in Cuba. Returning to Juneau for their second performance will be the Blue 4 Trio, a Seattle-based swing band, scheduled to open the festival on Friday, August 29.
The line-up of instructors for the festival includes Colette Hebert and Richard Council of Miami, teaching Argentine Tango; Rachel Lidskog of Portland, teaching swing and hustle; Felix Bamburry Webbe of Cuba and Fairbanks, teaching salsa and Afro-Cuban dance; and Stephanie Griffin of Anchorage, teaching salsa. Local dance instructors will teach additional styles including waltz, hula, belly dance, hip-hop and more. Classes will be geared towards beginners, with several intermediate-level classes offered as well. The event is for all ages.
Last year's event attracted participants from Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Haines, Skagway, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Nome and Whitehorse, organizers said.
Tickets for the evening concerts are on sale at Hearthside Books. More information is available at www.juneaudancefest.org. Contact Tim Adair at (907) 789-4690 or tim_dawg@yahoo.com with any questions or to volunteer.
