ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers are investigating the deaths of three sled dog puppies that were found shot to death near Aniak.

Ronald Nathan Underwood Sr. found the dead dogs earlier this month after he went to a nearby island where he was keeping his pups and only 11 showed up to be fed.

After searching the island, Underwood found three of the dogs had been shot with a .22-caliber weapon. Troopers said seven other puppies remain unaccounted for and are presumed dead.
