I am wondering where the Empire is getting the figures pertaining to the number of parking spaces affected by the new loading zone restrictions downtown.
As reported in the paper, only 13 spaces are affected. I counted 35 spaces (give or take one or two) that are affected by this new restriction. The entire left side of the street from the Red Dog all the way around to the Subway is off limits to the general public from 6 a.m. till 11 a.m. according to the signs posted. That is half of the parking on South Franklin and Front streets that have been taken away for half of every weekday. And I have yet to see enough freight loading going on to support such a change. And a $100 fine (plus the $10 surcharge) is highway robbery for a parking ticket.
