Juneau resident Eloise I. Steidley died peacefully on Aug. 1, 2008, at her home in Douglas. She was 85.
She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Pinckneyville, Ill., to Sydney and G. Lillian Paine. On June 30, 1946, she married the love of her life, Paul. H. Steidley, in San Bernardino, Calif. In April 1981, they moved to Juneau.
Her family said she was a devoted housewife, sister and aunt. Her talents were many, they said. She loved to cook, sew and work in her garden when she could.
"She was a wonderful and gracious lady who will be missed by all," her family said.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fred Paine; and husband, Paul. H. Steidley.
She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Steidley and husband, Ben; nieces, Eloise Ellerbe and husband, Edward, and Helen Pekovich and husband, Sam; nephew, Tom Paine and wife, Maryann; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
