Sheila Esther Wilcox, 69, passed away in her home on Aug. 12, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was a second-generation Juneauite, born on Oct. 6, 1940, to Miles and Mae (Cashen) Godkin, and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1958. Sheila married James M. Wilcox, Sr., in April 1960, and they just celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary. She battled Thymus Carcinoma since September 2009, doing treatments at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sherry A. (Wilcox) Wythe. She is survived by her husband James M. Wilcox, Sr., children James M. WIlcox Jr., (Betty) of Gustavus, Greg "Bill" Wilcox of Juneau, Theresa M. Wilcox Nolen (Larry) of East Texas, Jeffery D. Wilcox Sr. of Juneau, and Skip Lakeman (Sally) of Seattle; grandchildren Shea and J.D. Wilcox and Victoria Nolen; sister Arleen Jones of Auke Bay and brother Jerry Godkin, Sr. (Lorene) of Douglas; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
At her request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Home Care of Juneau, 419 Sixth St., Juneau, AK 99801, (907) 453-6111, in memory of Shelia E. WIlcox.
Sheila was devoted to her family, loved gardening and working outside, wintering in Texas, genealogy and picture albums, and upkeep of the family museum. Her teapot was always ready for family and friends.
