Word of Mouth gives readers a forum to express opinions on a variety of issues by telephone. Calls must be limited to one minute and we reserve the right to edit calls for clarity, length and libel. The number to call in 586-4636. Then press 8255 to leave your message.

I'll admit I haven't read the FAA finding, but the truth of the matter is the pilots who come here to Alaska to fly are flying in some of the most difficult conditions anywhere in the world. You can blame pilot error most of the time, Ill admit. But inexperienced pilots shouldnt be flying onto those glaciers without the proper training. I think thats where we miss the point. Aviation weather is the main factor; mechanical error is second and pilot error is really the third. We need to protect our guests when they come to this community. I dont believe in my heart of hearts this was pilot error; disorientation, maybe. We better take a closer look at this. The helicopter and aviation industries shouldnt get off on a free ride just because they want to make some money.

I don't understand why the police do not ticket people who leave their garbage out. In the paper today there were two reports of the bear in the garbage at the same house. Why dont the police ticket the people for not containing their garbage. If theres no garbage then the bears wont come downtown and we wont have to shoot them.

I would really like to know how many other Juneau residents are sick and tired of having to stand and hold the rails of Capital Transit because the buses are always packed with tourists who are too cheap to use the tour buses provided for them. Capital Transit should be for the residents of Juneau, not a guided tour bus. If our drivers wanted to be tour guides they would have applied for the job. I feel sorry for them the most.

I agree wholeheartedly with the person about the barge lines. Maybe somebody from the barge lines could call Word of Mouth and give us a viable reason for doing it in the middle of the night. Id like to add DIPAC doesnt realize how their tour guides loud PA system bothers people across the channel.

In reference to the caller who was happy that Fish and Game closed Southeasts red crab fishery because people involved in the fishery mostly come from Seattle should know that there are many permit owners in Southeast Alaska. I understand the need to shut down a fishery to protect the resource, but it is still hard when it is still left open and the quota is raised for other user groups. Have some compassion.

For the person who stated that he/she would vote against the 1 percent sales tax because the hospital is run by a private company, someone needs to do their homework. There is a management company, but the hospital decisions are made by a nine-person board of directors who are appointed by the assembly. The board oversees budget and planning.

Thank you to the honest and kind individual who found and returned our lost checkbook at their own expense. Random acts of kindness in Juneau is one of the many reasons we live here.

What is wrong with the post office? The lines are always out the door.

I agree with the guy who called in about the loose gravel on Egan Drive. If my windshield cracks I just send the bill to the paving company.

True Alaskans are not embarrassed by our homemade whales and fake flamingos. Lets make some make-believe touists to watch them.
