I read the recent article and poll on the second crossing to Douglas Island and have to wonder if this is the right time to build another bridge.
Cutting 20 minutes of travel time for shoppers and skiers does not justify the bridge.
If we used this money to improve access to Juneau by building the road to Skagway, we would not only lower freight rates for existing businesses, but would allow our fellow Alaskans affordable access to their capital city. This would also allow Juneau families to visit the rest of our great state or the lower 48 at a reasonable cost.
This would also relieve pressure on relocating the capital because of access problems.
Building a bridge seems to be putting the cart before the horse, but then I am sure there are people who will disagree with that point.
I am not against building a second bridge, in fact I am all for it, but let's do it at the right time.
