ANCHORAGE - A driver who picked up a hitchhiker faces DUI charges after the hitchhiker sent text messages about her worries that the man was drinking.

Alaska State Troopers say the female hitchhiker sent the messages to a friend who relayed them to authorities.

Troopers say they took action and located the driver in a parking area at the Seward Highway and Potter Valley Road. The hitchhiker had already gotten out.

Trooper Sgt. Bryan Barlow says 53-year-old Timothy Michael Borup of Anchorage was charged with drunken driving and driving with a revoked license.

The hitchhiker's name wasn't released.
