My hat goes off to the caller who is sick and tired of the tourists overcrowding our local transit buses. Many locals here depend on the transit for work, for shopping and everyday life. We cannot afford other transportation, yet we do pay almost $400 a year per person to utilize this service. You don't see locals riding the tour buses. The same should go for the tourists riding our transit.
To the person who complained about having to hold the hand rails on Capitol Transit because tourists ride the bus who the heck do you think you are? That's an ugly, ugly statement and reflects ugly on this community. Public is public; public transportation is for everyone.
This is in response to the person complaining about having to stand up on the Capitol Transit bus because of too many tourists. The tourists are only here for five months a year, and they bring a lot of money to Juneau. If this person doesn't like riding the bus, why don't they get a job in one of our many tourist shops and buy a car?
I would like to know how somebody can consider themselves not against tourism, yet walk the docks with a sign that says, "Go home, big, stinky cruise ships."
If the dirty outside of a building is caused by cruise ship smoke, then maybe the city could give some of that "head tax" money to clean it.
If the boatowners in town paid $12 million on the fair market value of their boats, the way airport and helicopter owners do, maybe we wouldn't have to make so much noise to pay for their pleasures.
I'm afraid I must vote no on the 1 percent sales tax. The city and borough's past practices are pretty abominable. They spent $800,000 for Astroturf and $1 million for a footbridge across the Mendenhall River. I think we need to send them a message.
Ice rink in Douglas? Give me a break. How about a public swimming pool in the valley? That would be nice.
I sure hope someone who was crossing the Douglas Bridge last night about 5:30 got the number of the red plane that came down over the bridge going north. I slammed on my brakes because it came down so close to me that I thought we were going to collide. I apologize to anyone who was behind me, but it looked like collision was unavoidable.
I pay $20 for me and my girlfriend to go to the movies downtown, and the least they could do is have bathrooms with stalls on them and that are partially clean.
Fish all you want, but don't join the Territorial Sportsman. They're still wrong on subsistence.
I think that if we were to get our stuff together, we could open ANWR. But we need to be responsible about developing ANWR and not trash it just because we want the oil.
I have a complaint about the Juneau Police Department making what they call sting operations in our local store and liquor stores. I feel that it's not a sting, it's an entrapment. It should be stopped.
