Thanks for helping in my road to recovery
Sound off on the important issues at
I would like to thank Comet Mine Emergency Medical Technician specialist Kenya Skaflestad for her great help and support along with Leon Demmert and Al Gordon, both emergency trauma technicians, graduates on making me very comfortable and relaxed during my road to recovery on Aug. 13. Also, the medevac crew, Jayme and Chris, along with the pilot who made it possible to transport me to Bartlett. Also, thanks to my crew and the other miners and surface hands that helped in the accident. If it wasn't for your quick thinking, training and team work, my injuries could have been major.

Thanks for contributing to flyfishing event
I'd like to thank the following groups and individuals for helping make our July 30 Big Brothers Big Sisters flyfishing event a big success: Juneau Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Raincountry Flyfishers, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Mark Vinsel, Brad Elfers, Chris Zimmer, John Lyman, Mark Kaelke, Rich Culver, Chris Casey and Dave McKenna. Thanks to these groups and individuals, two dozen children and volunteers in our program learned the basics of flyfishing on a beautiful afternoon near Outer Point. We were hoping to catch a few pink salmon, but the two sculpin caught that day made for plenty of excitement. Thanks to all involved for introducing another healthy outdoor activity into the lives of our youth and volunteers.

Thanks for hosting memorial celebration
To Dave Benton, Tony Talbot and all the members of the Point Retreat Lighthouse Association: The memorial celebration for Jennifer Griffin on June 21 at the Point Retreat Lighthouse was a fitting tribute and was enjoyed by all who attended. What a beautiful setting for this event. The quality of workmanship in your restoration efforts is commendable. Thanks again for donating the use of the Lighthouse for this event. Our warmest thank-you.

Thanks for donating to Boy Scouts' trip
Thank you for the generous donation from GCI and Bauer and Gates Real Estate for assisting five boys from Troop 6 to attend Camp Gorsuch Boy Scout camp in Anchorage this year. The two businesses donated a car rental and air miles to allow the boys to travel to camp, and helped chaperone the trip along with Marilyn Loney. Thank you for helping facilitate this great opportunity for Juneau boy scouts.
