FAIRBANKS - A 29-year-old Swiss woman has drowned in Alaska near the site for the movie "Into the Wild."

Alaska State Troopers say Claire Jane Ackermann was trying to cross the Teklanika River on Alaska's Stampede Trail near the site of an old Fairbanks city bus featured in the critically acclaimed film.

Troopers said Ackermann was trying to wade across the swollen stream with a 27-year-old man from France on Saturday when they lost their footing and were pulled under by the current. The man survived.
