Police and Fire

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:

Thefts:

• A $50 bottle of cologne was reported stolen from a Chevy truck at 7:18 p.m. Thursday near Thunder Mountain Road.

• Two cartons of cigarettes, valued at $75, were reported stolen at 7:46 p.m. Thursday near Mendenhall Mall Road.

• A blue Nokia cellular telephone was reported stolen at 5:08 p.m. Sunday near Willoughby Avenue.

• At 9 a.m. Monday, a car battery was reported stolen from a white Ford van near Shaune Drive in Lemon Creek sometime in the previous two nights.

• At 10:04 a.m. Monday, a marine signal kit and sunglasses were reported stolen from an unlocked boat near Lund Street in Lemon Creek sometime within the last week.

• A 10-foot skiff was reported stolen at 11:07 a.m. Monday from a float in Gastineau Channel.

Traffic accidents:

• Police cited a 42-year-old man for failing to carry insurance information and for driving an unsafe vehicle, after he ran into a building at 10:35 p.m. Sunday near Douglas Highway. The accident was due to brake problems. Police impounded the vehicle for safety reasons.

• A 1997 Subaru driven by a woman, 48, ran into a truck at 8:32 a.m. Friday near Mendenhall Loop Road. Damage to Subaru was estimated at $2,000. The truck was not damaged.

• A man, 34, was cited for negligent driving at 4 p.m. Friday near Glacier Avenue after he lost control of his 1993 Nissan Sentra and caused a one-vehicle accident. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A boy, 4, was evaluated at Bartlett Regional Hospital for minor injuries after he ran into the street and into the wheel well of a Ford Expedition driven by a man, 41, at 6:30 p.m. Friday on South Franklin Street.

Hit-and-run:

• At 9:47 a.m. Monday, a woman reported her teal Dodge was struck by an unknown vehicle Sunday near Old Dairy Road.

Found property:

• A blue mountain bike was found at 9:12 a.m. Monday near Mendenhall Mall Road.

• A bag of personal belongings, including a laptop computer, was found at 11:29 a.m. Monday near Gastineau Avenue and First Street.

Animal complaints:

• Police received reports of bears Thursday at 12:12 p.m. in the area of Atlin Drive and at 12:43 p.m. near Delta Drive. A caller reported at 1:07 p.m. Friday that a bear had damaged the doors on a garbage enclosure near Mendenhall Loop Road.

• At 8:49 a.m. Friday, a caller told police that a bear had gotten into the garbage stored outside a home near Birch Lane. A bear also was reported digging in garbage at 12:55 a.m. Friday near Teal Street. A bear was reported at 10:32 a.m. Friday near McGinnis Drive and Gee Street. Bears also were reported Friday at 1:30 p.m. near Trio Street and 5:20 p.m. near Gee Street, 9:15 p.m. near Crowhill Drive, and 11 p.m. near Lawson Creek Road.

• Bears were reported at 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Third Street in Douglas.

• A bear was reported at 7:54 a.m. Monday in a tree near Diane Road. A bear was reported wandering at 6:35 a.m. Monday near Taku Boulevard.

Other:

• Police cited a girl, 15, at 12:52 a.m. Friday near Egan Drive on charges of driving without a license and possessing tobacco. She was released to a parent.
