You can't judge officer unless you were there

Posted: Sunday, August 19, 2007

Reading and listening to the news over the last few days, I've been shocked at how much ink and air time has been given to those Monday morning quarterbacks judging the actions of one of Juneau's finest.

Sound off on the important issues at

I wasn't there. I don't know who the police officer was or the man who was threatening people with a sword. I am not trained as a police officer, and I wouldn't want the job, so I'm not in a good position to offer an opinion on the actions of this officer.

I've seen adrenaline, however, make a body do some surprising things, so I doubt wounding the man would have solved anything.

The officer and his family are in my thoughts. I cannot know what he is going through. I also offer my thanks to him and the other officers who serve to make our town safe.

I hope the people threatened with the sword are sleeping better as well.
