UAS High School Basketball Clinic - The University of Alaska Southeast Recreation Center is offering a high school basketball clinic. The girls session will be held from 8 a.m. to noon with the boys session taking place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is for athletes entering grades 9-12. Instructors will feature Director of Basketball Operations at Gonzaga University Jerry Krause, former JDHS boys coach George Houston and UAS Recreation Manager Phil Paramore. Maximum player to coach ratio will be 8-to-1. Each session will include scrimmage games and players will receive individual skill assessments from coaches. Fee is $50. Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball - The Crimson Bears' volleyball season gets underway this weekend with a jamboree event. Games will take place at the JDHS main gym and auxillary gym.
Saturday, Aug. 25
Juneau-Douglas High School cross country - The Crimson Bears' first and only home meet of the season takes place Saturday at Savikko Park. JDHS will battle Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Haines and a host of Southeast Conference opponents in Douglas. Time TBA.
Friday, Aug. 31
Juneau-Douglas High School football - The Crimson Bears will host Palmer in a rematch of last year's state quarterfinal playoff game at 8 p.m. Friday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field. The JDHS junior varsity will take on the Moose's JV at 5 p.m. Friday.

Juneau Skating Club pre-season skating clinic - The Juneau Skating Club will host an open clinic for all abilities and levels on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 9:45 a.m. Info: www.juneauskatingclub.org.
Volleyball officials needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is seeking volleyball officials for the 2007 men's and women's fall season. League play begins Sept. 4. Officials are paid $9.52 per match. Info: Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.
Youth Indoor Soccer registration - Juneau Parks and Recreation youth indoor soccer registration will run from Aug. 13-24 with late registration through Aug. 31. Indoor soccer is for ages 6-18. Print off a registration form at juneau.org/parksrec/youth or stop by the office at 155 S. Seward St. from M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The season runs from Sept. 29-Dec. 8. Start Smart Sports Development registration - Registration for the Start Smart Sports Development classes are taking place now. The program is designed for children ages 4-5 and their parents. Thunder Mountain Sports Camp lost and found - Are you looking for your favorite sweatshirt or water bottle you lost? Volunteer soccer coaches needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteer coaches for the upcoming Outdoor Soccer Program. The season will run from July 7 to September 15. Persons knowledgeable about soccer, who enjoy working with youth, are encouraged to call Parks and Rec or drop by the office for more information. JDHS turf field available - The turf field by Juneau-Douglas High School is available for community use. The charge for reserving the field is $5 per hour for non-profit youth groups, $10 per hour for non-profit adult groups and $15 per hour for all other groups. Individuals and groups are asked to keep food, drink, gum and animals off the field. To reserve the field, contact Community Schools at 523-1773.
Adult Soccer - The Capital City Soccer Leagues co-ed masters soccer league for players over 30 will be on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park starting Sept. 9 through Oct. 28. Cost is $20. Info: Moctar Diouf, 586-3256 or www.juneausoccer.com.
Tuesday Best Ball Golf League - The 2007 Tuesday Best Ball Golf League, a fun golf competition for men and women, starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course. Teams of golfers will compete for points in a best-ball format with cash prizes at season's end. Players pay green fees and a $5 weekly entry fee. No registration is necessary. Kids Camp at JRC/The Alaska Club - The annual Kids Camp at the JRC/The Alaska Club will take place from June 4 to August 17 for kids ages 5-12. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League will play every Thursday, with a shotgun start at 6 p.m. at the Mendenhall Golf Course. The league is looking for women interested in playing golf. No prior experience is necessary to participate. Clubs and carts can be rented at the course. League play will be every Thursday at 6 p.m. through August 16. Golfers should contact the course if weather is questionable. Dzantik'i Heeni open gym - Community Schools in cooperation with the PEP grant is sponsoring open gyms at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School on Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for youth in grades 6-12. There is no charge and youth are encouraged to bring a basketball or volleyball. Info: Community Schools, 523-1774.
Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
