ANCHORAGE - A woman accused of driving a sport utility vehicle into a row of shopping carts faces felony charges of criminal mischief and assault plus misdemeanor reckless driving.
Witnesses tell police that 21-year-old Tiana Vonmergl-Grote on Saturday night raced her SUV on Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage and lost control as she tried to change lanes.
The SUV jumped the curb, entered a Fred Meyer store parking lot, struck a row of shopping carts and flipped.
Police found Vonmergl-Grote and two passengers hiding in the store bathroom.
Twenty-year-old passenger Christopher Shively was charged with helping Vonmergl-Grote escape, resisting arrest and underage drinking.
The shopping carts are valued at $150 to $300 each.
