I would like to publicly thanks those folks, who, on the evening of Aug. 15, at about 5 p.m., on Vanderbilt Hill, stopped to offer assistance to what no doubt looked very much like a situation needing help. These folks also include the staff and care providers at the Juneau Pioneers Home. By way of explanation, what with the beautiful sunny evening, I thought it would be nice to take my "aging" mother out for a walk. As she is used to walking several miles a day, I thought nothing of it. However, upon our return toward her home, she tired, and on that hill decided it was time to just sit down and take a little nap, so that is what we did.
I soon realized from the traffic stopping to offer assistance that we were causing some consternation. I apologize. Quite frankly, for me, it was a rather precious and touching moment, lying about with my mother in my lap, taking a nap, sun in our faces, just as I suppose she did with me so many years ago.
I was just returning the favor. Again, I both apologize and thank those many folks who stopped to offer help.
