Former Juneau resident Ruth Budbill died Aug. 12, 2002, in Washington.
She was born July 25, 1922, in Seattle, Wash., to Christian and Lulu Jorgenson. After graduating from Queen Anne High School in 1940, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where she attained the rank of sergeant. She met Don H. Budbill and they were married at Parris Island, S.C., in October 1945. They moved to Seattle, where they attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1952. In 1956, they moved to Juneau, where Ruth worked for the Alaska State Troopers. There they raised four children, Jack, Susie, Michael and David. After a long career with the state Department of Public Safety, she retired with her husband to Camano Island, Wash., where they built a house in 1982.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don H. Budbill, who died in December 1988.
She is survived by her daughter Diane Gilbreath of Fairbanks; sons Jack H. Budbill of Vancouver, Wash.; David Budbill of Juneau; and Michael Budbill of Camano Island, Wash.; sister Joanne Sage of Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Gilbertson's Funeral Home in Stanwood, Wash.
