Comedy show and open mic contest to be held at Jaded

Posted: Thursday, August 20, 2009

Comedy Palooza will open at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 at the Jaded restaurant at the Goldbelt Hotel.

Local comedian Lance Mitchell will open and Dan Fink will perform. There's also an open invitation for other comedians to come and strut their stuff.

"I wanted amateur comedians to come in and do a little stand up," Mitchell said.

Mitchell is a bit of an amateur himself.

"I didn't realize that I liked doing it until Marlintini's had a contest one day," Mitchell said. "I just have a love for getting up there and telling dirty jokes, or rather stories that are funny in a crude manner."

Fink has a similar story, according to Mitchell. "It's something he did one day because he had a love to do it. And it turns out he was funny." Fink performs at Marlintini's and has opened up for other comics.

So far three guys and a team of girls have signed up for the open mic. Mitchell encourages others who want to get involved to call ahead of time.

There will be prizes for the three funniest new comics. Local businesses Alaska Dames and Gents, Nail Jazz, Choco Boutique, Specs in the City and Rainy Retreat books have donated prizes and gift certificates. Wade Bryson will judge.
