Academic honors

Kimberly V. Race of Juneau was awarded a $1,600 Gertrude Laurance Scholarship for the 2002-03 school year at Eastern Washington University. This scholarship was established to award outstanding students majoring in elementary education.

Race, the daughter of Carol Race of Douglas, and Michael Race of Juneau, graduated in 1998 from Juneau-Douglas High School.

Beau Griggs was named to the University of Alaska Fairbanks' dean's honor list for spring semester of the 2001-02 academic year. He is the son of Dean and Joanne Griggs of Juneau, and is interning at the Department of Transportation in Juneau.

Kimberly Andree of Juneau was named to the dean's list at Pacific University for the spring semester 2002. She is studying media arts and Japanese and was recently awarded the Lucien P. Arant Scholarship for journalism.

Cheri Cadiente made the dean's list and the honor roll in her first term of study at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska.

She is the daughter-in-law of Irene and Andres Cadiente of Juneau. Cheri and her husband, Andres Cadiente, Jr., have three children, Jeremy, Kristin and Alysha.

Sophia Polasky, daughter of Jackie and Tim Polasky of Juneau, has been awarded a $8,000 President's Scholarship by the College of Saint Benedict for the 2002-03 academic year. Polasky is a first-year student at CSB.

Western Washington University incoming freshman Sandlin Preecs, daughter of Gordon and Connie Preecs of Juneau, has been awarded a $2,000 two-year President's Scholarship for the 2002-04 academic years.
