Arctic Winter Games announces events lineup for 2004 games in Alberta

Posted: Wednesday, August 21, 2002

The Arctic Winter Games International Committee announced Tuesday the events lineup for the 2004 games in northern Alberta.

Figure skating and ski-and-snowshoe biathlon will rejoin Arctic Winter Games lineup in 2004 after being dropped from this year's games. Joining those events will be an intermediate female indoor soccer category and a junior female Dene games category.

The International Committee also announced that the hockey events will remain the same in 2004, but the Peewee hockey division will be dropped in 2006 to reduce pressure on host cities' ice facilities and create a better balance of events.

The 2004 Arctic Games will be held in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray), Alberta. Juneau is forming a bid to host the 2006 Arctic Winter Games.
