Come hear the Juneau Student Symphony perform music of the famous American composer John Williams at noon on Aug. 29 at the State Office Building Atrium or at 7 p.m. the same day at Marine Park. Better yet, join the student symphony in the performances. Rehearsals began on Aug. 18.
Williams is well-known for his work on movie soundtracks such as "Star Wars," "E.T.", "Jurassic Park," "Harry Potter," "Superman," and "Munich."
Also, the symphony invites all musicians to join it for open reading rehearsals from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 15 at the Juneau-Douglas High School band room. The reading rehearsals are free and open to any instrumental musician of any age, and provide an opportunity for prospective orchestra members to try out the orchestra and for veteran musicians to play with a group.
The Juneau Student Symphony will hold auditions for its fall and winter concerts until Sept. 20. Interested parties can read up on the audition procedure at http://www.juneausymphony.org/studentsymphony/handbook.html and contact Rick Trostel at 723-3564 to set up an audition time.
