Police and Fire

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:

Driving while intoxicated:

• Michael Paddock, 28, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday near Egan Drive and 10th Street for drunken driving. He also was charged with driving without a valid driver's license. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.


• Police arrested Scott Higgins, 39, for first-degree burglary and third-degree theft, both felonies, at 6:37 p.m. Wednesday near Meadow Lane. He was charged after he allegedly broke into an apartment and allegedly stole a guitar. The guitar is valued at $300. He was lodged at the state prison.


• A CD player, a CD and loose change were reported stolen at 8:47 a.m. Wednesday near Harris Harbor.

• A pair of reading glasses and miscellaneous papers were reported stolen at 11:14 a.m. Wednesday near South Franklin Street.

• A purse was reported stolen from outside a residence at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday near Kanat'a Street.

• An address book and $480 in cash were reported stolen at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday from the console of a 1984 Toyota truck parked near Aurora Harbor. The man reporting the theft was camping in the back of the truck at the time. He said he didn't hear anything during the night.

• A silver Philips portable CD player and Rayban sunglasses were reported stolen at 6:54 a.m. Wednesday near Sixth Street and Gold Street.

Animal encounters:

• Bears were reported Wednesday at 11:20 a.m. near Behrends Avenue, 4:45 p.m. near Calhoun Avenue, 4:47 p.m. near Threadneedle Street, 8:02 p.m. near John Street in Douglas, 8:41 p.m. near David Street and 10:23 p.m. near Aspen Avenue.

A bear was reported today at 6:54 a.m. near Sixth Street and Gold Street.
