Peter John Sr., Saaxaa of the Was'hineidi Clan, 76, died on Aug. 17, 2003, in Juneau.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1926, in Angoon. He lived in Seattle for several years before he moved to Juneau 10 years ago. He was a fisherman most of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Katherine John of Angoon; brothers, Ronald John Sr., David (Lillian) John, William John and Walter John; and sister, Annie John.
He is survived by his daughters, Karlene John, Kathy John (Merle Johnson) and Virginia John-Daniels (Mitch Daniels); son, Peter John Jr.; granddaughter, Melody Vonda (Derrick Harris); great-grandsons, Derrick, Chase and Davis Harris, all of Juneau; and sisters, Alice Bennett of Juneau, Martha Jackson of Kake and Mary B. Johnson of Angoon.
Services were held on Aug. 21 at the Church of God. Pallbearers were Olin Beird, Leonard John, Rick Willard, Billy John, Johnny Albert, Walter Bennett Jr., Bert Bennett, Leonard Johnson and Charles John. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Adams, Peter Jack, Cyril George Sr., Royal Jackson Jr., Lydia George, Edward John, Gerald Bennett Sr., Gerald Bennett Jr., Bobby Bennett, Emmert Albert, Mitch Daniels, Peter John Jr., Walter Bennett Sr., George B. Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Clarence Jackson, Leonard John, Walter Johns, Reginald John and Byron John.
