Honor Hammond at valley school

As soon as I can lay my hands on the requisite form I plan on submitting my suggested name for the new school: "Jay S. Hammond High School." As Alaska's capitol, we need to be purposeful in honoring those men and women who have dedicated much of their lives to serving the people of this state. With his passing just over a year ago, Alaska lost one of its few true statesmen. In looking back few can argue that Jay Hammond's impact on the history of this state, as well as his continuing legacy, has been remarkable. Bush pilot, guide and independent thinker, he truly embodied the spirit of our new school's chosen mascot.

Sound off on the important issues at

"Ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for the Hammond High School Falcons!" Sounds pretty good don't you think? I certainly hope others will agree.
