Juneau Appreciation Day this weekend
Free sockeye salmon with fixings will be offered during the annual Juneau Appreciation Day starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gastineau Salmon Hatchery.
Admission to the hatchery will be free. A salmon cook-off will also be featured. Entry forms are available at local grocery stores, the hatchery, Ketch-A-Bunch Shack and KINY/KSUP.
Girl Scout registration offered Thursday
Girl Scouts registration will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Channel Bowl. Girl Scouts offers troops, classes, special interest groups, camps and community events to all girls. Call 586-1710.
Grant offers nurse,attendant training
Cornerstone Home Health has received a grant from the State Training and Employment Program to offer free Personal Care Attendant and Certified Nurses Aid training. Scholarships are available for Haines and Juneau residents. Contact Monica at 586-6838 for more information.
Prayer meeting focuses on crusade
A community prayer meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 740 West 10th Street. Native college awards now available
The Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Tribes of Alaska has announced the availability of 85 college awards, valued at $200 each, from their Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program.
