In season: King and dungeness crab, halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), freshwater brook trout (peaks Aug.-Sept.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.), freshwater Northern Pike (peaks July-Aug.), deer (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), mountain goat (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), wolf (Aug.-April), grouse (Aug.-May), ptarmigan (Aug.-May).

Aug. 23: Trail Mix monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Call 790-6406.

Aug. 25: Waterfowlers Fair and Shooting Clinic starting at 9 a.m. at the Juneau Gun Club on Montana Creek Road. A $10 registration fee covers seminars, clay targets and some ammo. Call 465-4267 for details.

Aug. 25: The Saturday hike usually meets at 9:30 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.

Aug. 25: Kids Day program at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area from 11 a.m. to noon. Children under 7 should bring an adult. For more call 789-6640.

Aug. 26: High power rifle, at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 8 a.m. registration, shoot at 9 a.m. Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club.

Aug. 26: Public trap shoot at 10 a.m. every Sunday at the Juneau Gun Club. Call 789-9844.

Aug. 29: Public trap shoot at 6 p.m. every Wednesday at the Juneau Gun Club. Call 789-9844.
